Hello, boat. Come to Mama.

Mike listens as Morley contemplates spending
the next couple of years
buffing
and cleaning and buffing and cleaning and buffing and cleaning
some more.
During the years that Magnificent Obsession floated two slips down from
us I had admired her from afar, so when her owner hung a "for sale" sign
one Saturday in July, 2008 we got our hands on the keys to take a look. And as these sorts of things work on a dock, our buddies gathered around
to help out.

Interior:
I suppose blue carpet and funky fabrics
looked hip and stylish back in the day, but it's the new millennium, baby, and
these days blue carpet and funky fabrics
look... well, blue
and funky. And dated. And blue.
After
being used to the interior of our existing boat
with its uncluttered, modern interior the contrast was
especially stark. I could see past the dated decor to
picture how great the boat would be after a little updating,
but Morley (who has never bought anything used
in his life) was slower to come around. Some degree of
begging, pleading, whining and cajoling was to follow.
(Thanks, Dennis. I owe you one.)

A good scrub and new electrical lines added to the "to do"
list.

Exterior: The outside of the boat needed
love too. The guys from the dock gathered up their arsenal
of waxes, buffers, and polishing compounds to do a little
testing to see how hard it would be to restore the shine to
the gel coat. As it turns out, it wasn't hard at all. |

Morley hated the existing striping which he
thought looked old fashioned. Our friend Don gave us a
boat-warming gift of new sleek black and gold striping. Mo bettah. |
